Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has unveiled new security equipment aimed at strengthening law enforcement and protecting residents. The launch at Government House introduced two advanced Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) drones, 10 Hilux 4×4 patrol vehicles, 40 motorcycles, 400 bulletproof vests, and 400 helmets, procured through the state’s Security Trust Fund.
Governor Mbah noted that these additions build on prior investments, including the state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, AI-enabled surveillance cameras, and over 150 Distress Response Squad vehicles fitted with AI cameras.
“Violent crimes in Enugu have dropped by over 80 percent, but security requires constant vigilance,” Mbah said. “Even one breach can undo our progress, so we must continue investing in equipment and rapid-response systems.”
Engr. Chinedu Ani, Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Security Trust Fund, explained that the drones can operate without a runway, cover distances up to 100km, and cruise at 120km per hour. Equipped with thermal, night vision, and high-zoom AI cameras, the drones enhance the state’s ability to track suspects, vehicles, and individuals across Enugu.
With these deployments, the state reinforces its commitment to proactive, technology-driven security.
