…calls for a new Board and humanitarian assistance
The Niger Delta Youth Council on Friday after its extraordinary National Executive Council Meeting commended President Muhammadu Buhari for heeding their plea and sacking Mr. Effiong Okon Akwa, the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In a communique made available to journalists at the end of their NEC meeting in Yenogoa, the Bayelsa State Capital, the National Coordinator Engr. Abido Jator expressed satisfaction with the sack of Mr. Offiong, describing it as a welcomed development that will usher in a substantive Board and a new management team for the good of the read.
Part of the communique reads; the end of impunity is finally over in Niger Delta and indeed the NDDC. We thank Mr. President for acting promptly to end the illegality of a Sole Administrator in NDDC. We urge him to immediately constitute a broad and representative Board and management team for the peace and development of the region”.
While calling on well-meaning Nigerians and the relevant agencies to come to the aid of the victims of the flood in the Niger Delta, the NDYC expressed their disappointment over the lack of empathy by the federal government, noting that not even Mr. President has come down to see for himself the level of destruction the region has suffered.
“We are angry with the federal for turning its backs on us at this critical time when our livelihood and health are endangered by floods. It is unfortunate that nobody has come down here to see things for himself. We, therefore, call on all well-meaning Nigerians and organizations to come to the aid of the good people of Niger Delta who have suffered and lost so much in the floods” the statement added.
